Proving wooden bikes can be innovative, they can be durable and they can easily ignite a life long passion for bikes. Crafted from marine-grade Super Ply, The Lite is resistant to rot, warping, and decay. Its two-step steering system aids safe skill progression while heat-branded detailing, vegan leather seats, and hardened brass bolts ensure durability. Lightweight aluminium rims and wide tires provide stability and comfort for 2-4-year-olds. The Lite is sustainably designed to inspire, endure and draw just a bit of awe.

Not all wooden bikes are built the same

Marine grade Super Ply, the stuff they use on boats, docks and garden furniture designed to spend a lifetime outside. Also the stuff we choose to build our wooden bikes because bikes this good should be enjoyed by more than one kid.

It’s a brilliantly versatile material, resistant to warping and shrinkage, it’s rot resistant, doesn’t decay and due to a solid core, doesn’t hide any internal voids that could risk structural integrity further down the line.

On the surface, it’s a simple wooden bike, but to us, it’s so much more.

Weather proof, boil proof

Look, we don’t advocate for boiling your bike, ever, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t built our bikes to withstand every eventuality. We use WBP glue to bond our bikes. It stands for Weather and Boil Proof and it helps keep water out, no matter the temperature. This is especially important in wet, humid climates where water vapour can turn the sturdiest wood into pulp in a matter of months.

It’s also resistant to fungus and mould growth, further increasing the lifespan of our wooden bikes. Because life happens, bikes (occasionally) get left outside. That shouldn’t mean the end of them.

Two step steering system

Two step steering helps new riders learn safely without inhibiting their progress as they advance. In Step 1, the steering is restricted, preventing beginners from over steering, falling and losing confidence before they’ve started. Once they’ve mastered the basics, you can release the steering to provide unrestricted steering, and adventure.

Like all the best innovations, it’s stunningly simple.

Useful, beautiful, durable details

Everything, and we mean absolutely everything is designed to endure on the Lite. There isn’t a feature, enhancement or design detail that doesn’t serve a purpose

The Lite’s flame detail is heat branded because stickers peel off. And we embroider the vegan leather seat detail because print gets flaky and faded over the time. And we use hardened brass, with its lovely deep rusty colour because it’s that little bit more long wearing that regular brass.

Useful, beautiful, durable. That’s our motto and we’re sticking to it.

Roll model

The Lite specs market leading aluminium rims and hubs to save weight and high ABEC grade sealed cartridge bearings to minimise weight and rolling resistance.

By specifying such high grade wheel sets, we are able to justify investing weight in tyres that provide the safety and performance that make all the difference, without handing them a weight penalty.

Tread carefully

The Lite runs fast rolling 1.75” wide tyres to give 2-4 year olds the stability they need to learn, the air volume they need for comfort and the grip to tackle mixed terrain, confidently, even in the rain. Because there’s no such thing as the wrong weather. Only the wrong bike.

Sustain-Ability™

Cutting down trees to make bikes isn't sustainable. Kids bikes are the worst, often unable to last even one child. Early RIder's solution? Simple, a contrary design and manufacturing mandate: 'to sustain ability'.

Great product, no customer service

This bike is sturdy and my niece loves it. Unfortunately ours shipped without the child safe valve stem caps. I reached out to customer service twice to get replacements but have not heard any response after nearly two weeks. Hard to recommend a high-end product that has no customer service.

Looks solid.

The bike is really cool. My little one was super happy. She is still learning, but overall, I am glad we bought it.

She might need a bit more time to grow 1-2 more cm to feel more comfortable on it, but she just turned 2 so I guess it will work well for the summer.

The fact that you can lock the handlebar for a new learner is a nice touch.

The assembly was super easy. I feel it is still a bit too heavy for a 2 year old, but I guess it depends on the child.

The build quality is very nice though and appreciated.

Superfluous Craftsmanship & Design

Even for a Factory Second, this Early Rider Lite is a magnificent specimen of Balance Bike design and function. The wheels just spin for days, smooth edges all around the bike, slim yet supportive saddle, with super comfy grips. The Super Velio really got our little guy going early, we've transitioned to a gifted 12" Strider Sport with restricted steering (bungee cord) for a little more seat height and progression. Once he has a little more length in the legs, we'll be ripping off on the Early Rider Lite with those super smooth pneumatic wheels & tires. Great Job Team Early Rider, another highly recommended product!👍👍
